Outside their study time and subject to the rules and conditions applicable to the relevant activity in Cyprus, students shall be entitled to be employed in paid economic activity.
 
The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance takes into account the situation of the labour market in the country. The relevant Order or Decree of the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance is published in the Official Gazette and determines specific occupations and specified sectors of economic activity that students are allowed to be employed.

The maximum number of hours per week during which employment is allowed does not exceed twenty (20) hours and during the period of interruption of classes, the maximum number of hours per week during which employment is allowed does not exceed thirty-eight (38) hours.

Students should first sign a contract of employment, with an employer, and submit it to a District Labour Office for approval. The Labour Office will check the main conditions and if satisfied will approve the contract, in which the main employment terms and conditions are mentioned. The study schedule must be attached to the contract.

Students also have access to occasional paid activity of a domestic nature, in private households and in such case the employers are recorded each time on a special form, which the student carries with him and in which the dates and hours of employment and his remuneration are additionally recorded.
