In the previous programming periods, the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior was appointed as Responsible Authority to represent Cyprus in the URBACT II Monitoring Committee and the National Contact Point.

Following contacts between the Directorate General for European Programmes, Coordination and Development (DG EPCD) and the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior, it appeared that, due to the nature of the content of the URBACT III programme and the special know-how acquired from the previous Programming Periods 2004-2006 and 2007-2013, it is recommended that the participation of the European Funds Unit in the coordination and monitoring mechanisms of that Programme continues for the new programming period and that the DG EPCD should be informed, whenever required, as the competent authority for the Cohesion Policy in Cyprus.

In particular, for the period 2014-2020, the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior was appointed by the Council of Ministers to be the competent National Authority for the URBACT III programme and represent Cyprus in the Monitoring Committee and has taken on the role of the URBACT III National Contact Point.
