European Funds Unit

The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is one of the three main funds through which the EU regional policy is delivered. Regional Policy is the main EU investment policy that targets all regions and cities of the European Union in order to support job creation, business competitiveness, economic growth, sustainable development, and improve citizens’ quality of life.

The ERDF, the Cohesion Fund and the European Social Fund, together with the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund make up the European Structural and Investment Funds. The European Structural and Investment Funds contribute directly to the Commission’s Investment Plan and priorities.

Established in 1975, the ERDF contributes to the financing of assistance which aims to reinforce economic, social and territorial cohesion by redressing the main regional imbalances in the EU through support for the development and structural adjustment of regional economies, including the conversion of declining industrial regions (brownfield regeneration) and regions lagging behind.

You may find more information about the ERDF on the website of the European Commission.
