RECOGNIZED REFUGEES, SUBSIDIARY PROTECTION, ASYLUM SEEKERS

The Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD) announces that on Monday, 15.12.2014, article 18ΦΖ(7) of the Aliens and Immigration Law (Cap.105) as well as article 4 of the Aliens and Immigration (Amending) (No.2) Law [Ν129(Ι)/2014, O.G. Annex.Ι(Ι) No. 4456] are set into force, for the following categories of third country nationals:

a) who apply for the acquisition, renewal or reacquisition of a long term resident permit,
b) who reside or who will enter the Republic for family reunification purposes, and
c) who are holders of a international protection status.

In view of the enforcement of the above legislation, the Civil Registry and Migration Department has reviewed the procedure for the issuance of residence permits for the above mentioned categories.(for more details see relevant Announcement at the bottom of the page).

Temporary residence permits for recognized refugees and holders of subsidiary protection:

Applications for the issuance of residence permits are submitted to the appropriate Office of the Aliens and Immigration Unit of the Police of the District where the alien resides or to the Department (only for aliens residing in Nicosia); after that, the applications are examined and issued by the Asylum section of the Department. In case of approval of the application and the issuance of the residence permit a notice of receipt will be sent with which the applicant is informed that he/she must come to the point at which he/she applied to receive the residence permit. The notice will be sent to the last registered address of the third-country national. It is emphasized that no residence permit will be delivered to a person other than the applicant or his duly authorized representative.

Other responsibilities:

-Issue and delivere travel documents to persons recognized as refugees under the 1951 Geneva Convention.
-Examine applications for family reunification of refugees and issue of entry permits .

-Examination and issue of residence permit for humanitarian reasons.

-Examination and issueof laissez-passer to subsidiary protection and asylum seekers.

-Return of bank guarantees to beneficiaries regarding the recognized refugee and subsidiary protection status holders, who first arrived in the Republic to work and subsequently submitted a request for asylum which was approved and they hold a residence permit or asylum seekers who their request refused and later left or were deported.
