The issuance of residence permits of a uniform format is a result of the Regulation EC 1030/2002 of the E.U as this was amended. The issuance of these permits is gradual and per category according to the Legislation in force.
With the above EU Regulations, uniformity of the residence permits for all Member States is achieved, as regards to their design and to the basic information included in the residence permits. Also, the protection of the residence permits against counterfeiting, forgery and impersonation is enhanced, by the inclusion of common security features and of the holder’s biometric features (capturing of fingerpints is mandatory as from the age of 6 years).
Many of the information included in the residence permits of a uniform format is the same for all residence categories, whereas some information depend on the residence category.
