1. Overview
EU citizens are entitled to move to any EU county to live, work, study or retire.
You can stay in another EU country for up to 3 months without registering there, provided that you hold a valid national identity card or passport.
If you wish to stay in the new Member State for longer than 3 months, you may need to register with the appropriate authority.
In many EU countries, you will need to carry your identity card or passport with you at all times. It is a good idea to find out if you will need to carry your identity card or passport with you at all times before you leave for your new host country.
Please note that in order to reside or work in another Member State, you must follow the provisions of the Law on the Right of European Union Citizens and their Family Members to Move and Reside Freely within the Territory of the Republic of Cyprus, 2007 (Law No 7(I) of 2007, which may be partially different depending on the Member State.
This law refers to the obligation to have full insurance cover and sufficient resources to live on as a condition for obtaining the right to stay for longer than 3 months.
