| Statements by the Government Spokesman – Limnitis crossing point
29/04/2009 |
The President of the Republic Mr Demetris Christofias is constantly pointing out both to the Turkish Cypriot community and the international community the need to open up the Limnitis crossing point, the Government Spokesman Mr Stefanos Stefanou told journalists after a meeting of the Council of Ministers yesterday.
Invited to comment on press reports alleging there was a possibility of the Government providing electricity to the occupied area of Kokkina as a quid pro quo for the opening of Limnitis, and asked to say whether political party leaders discussed that issue during an informal meeting they held yesterday at the Presidential Palace, Mr Stefanou said the Limnitis issue was constantly on President Christofias’ mind and it was being raised at every meeting the President had with the Turkish Cypriot leader in the framework of direct talks under the UN aegis for a settlement of the Cyprus problem. Mr Stefanou reminded that “the two communities had decided on 21 March to work for the opening of more crossing points, giving priority to Limnitis”. He then said an effort was being made to achieve the opening of the Limnitis crossing point the soonest possible and no further comments were necessary. |
