    I submitted a new compromised proposal that was rejected without consideration, the President of the Republic says in a written statement and rejects any claim presented by the T/C leader. President reiterates his readiness to attend a conference on Cyprus, at any time, not for reasons of impression, but for a meaningful megotiation and expresses disappointment over the attempt of Mr Akinci to blame the Greek Cypriot side. Mr Akinci has rejected an invitation for a joint meeting on Monday, the President says.

    The hope that the T/C side will positively respond to his proposal, was expressed by the President of the Republic, at an event of the US Embassy on the occasion of the 241st anniversary of the US Independence. It is of utmost importance to remain committed to the continuation of the dialogue, work with determination, abandon any pretexts, and any unacceptable demands and preconditions that do not, in any way or form, serve the interests of the T/C and the G/C, President Anastasiades added.

    Cyprus and Jordan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Defence and Military Cooperation, in the framework of Defence Minister's visit to Jordan. During Minister Fokaides' meetings, the bilateral relations were examined, as well as the regional security environment and the threat of terrorism, and the migration humanitarian crisis. Cyprus Defence Minister also briefed his interlocutors on the Cyprus problem.
