Within the context of the new 2021-2027 Programming Period, the Home Affairs Funds consist of the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF), the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI) and the Internal Security Fund (ISF). The European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior is the Managing Authority for these Funds.
The Regulations of the new Funds have been adopted by the competent legislative instruments of the European Union (the EU Council, the European Commission and the European Parliament) on 15 July 2021. In line with the 2007-2013 and 2014-2020 Programming Period practice, each Fund shall have its own multiannual Programme. The projects managed by the European Funds Unit are mainly implemented by shared management, with the usual contribution of the European Union being at a percentage of 75% (apart from special cases when the percentage may reach 90% and/or 100%). The remaining percentage of the budget is paid with national resources.
The new Cyprus Programme for the ISF was approved by the European Union on 11 January 2023, and the ones for the AMIF and the BMVI were approved on 19 January 2023 and 20 January 2023 respectively. The projects which were integrated in each approved Programme are implemented either by direct award or a Call for Proposal.
