The European Union takes into consideration, among other things, the problem of the ageing of the population and the low birth rates of the EE and recognizes that in order for labour migration to contribute in increasing economic growth, flexible policies are needed. The aim of these policies is to manage migration flows, therefore the European Parliament and Council has established the Directive 2014/36/EU of 26th February 2014 on the conditions of entry and stay of third-country nationals for the purpose of employment as seasonal workers .
The directive indicates the conditions of entry and residence permit as well as the requirements to ensure that these workers will not be exploited, in any way, during their stay.
The above Directive has been transposed into national Law - Aliens and Immigration Law of 2017 (n.2 (1)2017, 27.1.2017, E.E Παρ. Ι (Ι) Αρ.4587).
