Overview All the district administrations issue birth certificates. The application form used to register a newborn child is completed and signed by the doctor who delivered the child. The hospital/clinic in which the child was born keeps one copy on file, sends one copy to the local District Administration and gives one copy to the child’s parents so that they can present it to a District Administration and have the birth of the newborn child entered in the Register of Births. Births can be registered at any District Administration office, regardless of where the child was born. The statutory fee payable for each certificate is EUR 5, provided the birth is registered within 15 days. The statutory fee payable to register a birth after the 15 day period has expired is EUR 5 for each certificate, plus a surcharge of EUR 30. The statutory fee payable to register a birth after a period of 3 months has expired is EUR 5 for each certificate, plus a surcharge of EUR 60, in which case the forms listed in the section on Certificates below must also be submitted. 2.
