European Funds Unit

A Grant Agreement was signed on 4 March 2024 between the European Funds Unit of the Ministry of Interior, as the Managing Authority of the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI), and the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and the Ministry of Defence (Naval Command), who act as the Beneficiary for the implementation of the project titled “Maintenance of Surveillance Vessels”, funded by the European Union.

The project objective is to maintain the operational preparedness of a total of two (2) large vessels (over 60-meter long) for the surveillance of migration flows. This will increase to a large extent the capabilities of the Republic of Cyprus in relation to maritime border surveillance. Specifically, within the framework of the project, dry docking and vessel removal works will be carried out, as well as works on the vessel hulls and maintenance works to their machinery and main engines.

The project is implemented within the framework of the Border Management and Visa Instrument, and it is financed by the European Union.

The total budget is €510,000 and the implementation period is from 01/02/2023 to 31/12/2024.
