General Information
The European Funds Unit manages European funds based on the provisions of the EU Regulations for the implementation of funded and co-funded projects within the framework of the legal bases governing the Ministry of Interior with the aim to achieve the maximum possible absorption of the European funds available by the EU to the Republic of Cyprus.

In the 2021-2027 Programming Period, the European Funds Unit acts as the Managing Authority of the Home Affairs Funds which include the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund, the Internal Security Fund and the Instrument for Financial Support for Border Management and Visa Policy (as part of the Integrated Border Management Fund).

Additionally, the European Funds Unit is involved in the processes of integration, monitoring and control of projects implemented by the Local Authorities within the context of Operational Programmes which are co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) and other Cross-border and Interregional Programmes (INTERREG), for the implementation of co-funded construction projects which are pertinent to the Local Administration Authorities in Urban and Rural Areas.

In particular, the European Funds Unit has been assigned by the respective Managing Authorities of the said programmes (Directorate-General Growth and Cyprus Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment) with the responsibilities of the Intermediate Body within the context of the “Thalia 2021-2027” Cohesion Policy Programme (European Regional Development Fund), as well as the responsibilities of the Implementation Unit within the context of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan 2023-2027 (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development).

Legislative framework governing Personal Data Processing
The Personal Data processing for the European Funds Unit is founded on the following Laws and Regulations and Programmes:

Who is concerned by the Personal Data Processing
The European Funds Unit processes personal data related to the publicity, security, social media, its current or candidate staff, contractor staff, the staff of beneficiary private and public bodies, entities with or without legal personality or natural persons who are responsible for the initiation or the initiation and implementation of acts (contracting parties) of the projects of the Home Affairs Funds and the “Thalia 2021-2027” Cohesion Policy Programme (European Regional Development Fund), as well as the Common Rural Policy Strategic Plan for 2023-2027 (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development).

Within the context of the implementation of the projects of the Home Affairs Funds, personal data related to the target group, i.e. Third-Country Nationals, applicants for international protection, beneficiaries of international protection and persons who may need international protection, adults and minors, is subject to processing.

As a part of the Administration of the Ministry of Interior, the Personal Data Protection Policy of the European Funds Unit is integrated into the general Personal Data Protection Policy of the Ministry of Interior.
