Documents required to apply for a certificate of no impediment.

(1) Cypriot nationals
• Declaration on oath confirming civil status, to be made at the Family Court (8 Diagorou Street, Kritikos Τower, Floors 9-11, Nicosia).
• Certificate from the Registrar of Marriages (Ministry of the Interior Civil Registry and Migration Department, Cheilonos Street, 1457 Nicosia) issued no more than three (3) months previously.
• Identity card
• Copy of birth certificate
• If divorced: In addition to the declaration on oath and the certificate from the Registrar of Marriages, the civil divorce decree (stamped by the Registrar of the Family Court once 42 days have expired from the date on which the decree nisi was granted, confirming that it is absolute and irrevocable)
• If widowed: In addition to the declaration on oath and the certificate from the Registrar of Marriages, the death certificate for the deceased spouse
• Optional: Thalassemia/Mediterranean anaemia diagnosis certificate

(2) Foreign nationals (European and third-country citizens)
• Certificate of family status issued by an official authority (Ministry of the Interior/Registry Office/Town Hall) in their country no more than three (3) months previously
• Passport (authenticated in the case of third-country citizens)
• Copy of birth certificate
• If divorced: In addition to the certificate of family status, the divorce decree.
• If widowed: In addition to the certificate of family status, the death certificate for the deceased spouse.
• Optional: Thalassemia/Mediterranean anaemia diagnosis certificate

N.B.
• Public documents must be translated into Greek (or English) by a sworn translator listed in the Register of Sworn Translators (or by an official authority/certified translator in the country of origin of the documents and then certified by a sworn translator in Cyprus).
• Public documents issued by other countries must be duly authenticated with:
• an apostille, if the person concerned is from a country which has signed the 1961 Hague Convention [on the basis of the relevant EU Directive, certain public documents issued by EU Member States (e.g. family status certificates, birth certificates) are exempt from the obligation of being authenticated by an apostille]
• if the public document was issued in a country which has not signed the Hague Convention:
• (a) the stamp of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country and
(b) the stamp of the embassy/consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in the applicant’s country (or, if there is no embassy/consulate in that country: the nearest embassy/consulate accredited in the Republic of Cyprus
or
(a) the stamp of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country and
(b) the stamp of that country’s embassy/consulate in Cyprus and
(c) the stamp of the Cypriot Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• Foreign nationals in Cyprus for reasons other than tourism (e.g. work, study) or for a period of longer than three (3) months must also make a declaration on oath at the Family Court and provide a certificate of family status issued by the Registrar of Marriages of the Republic of Cyprus no more than three (3) previously (see procedure for Cypriot nationals).
